trellis is a 6-year commitment to becoming an exceptional middle or high school STEM teacher.
TRELLIS TEACHER SCHOLARS ENTER THEIR 6TH YEAR OF TEACHING WITH:
Decreased (or no!) debt related to becoming or developing as a teacher;*
At least 5 years of teaching experience in high-need California public middle and high schools;
5 years of free mentoring support from a STEM-specific, expert mentor;
A cleared California teaching credential in at least one STEM discipline;*
A Master of Arts degree in Education or a Master of Science degree in a STEM field;*
At least one year as a mentor of a Trellis Teacher Scholar;
National Board Certification initiated in a STEM discipline;*
Demonstrated effectiveness as a secondary STEM teacher;
A belief that STEM teaching is an act of social justice and STEM learning is a civil right; and
A commitment to and passion for California students and the teaching profession
* We are working to ensure all teachers in our community – and ultimately all teachers in California serving our highest-need students – can become teachers and develop as professional educators at no cost to them. This involves advocacy and partnership work from the Governor’s office down to the classrooms and students we serve, and we’re getting there.
