trellis is a 6-year commitment to becoming an exceptional middle or high school STEM teacher.

[1] In accordance with the California Teaching Commission, Trellis apprentice teachers (Year 0) must have passed the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) and possess an undergraduate degree before beginning Year 0. Apprentice teachers must hold an undergraduate B.S. degree in a STEM field or have demonstrated subject-matter competency (e.g., CSET).

TRELLIS TEACHER SCHOLARS ENTER THEIR 6TH YEAR OF TEACHING WITH:

  • No debt related to becoming or developing as a teacher;

  • At least 5 years of teaching experience in high-need California public middle and high schools;

  • 5 years of free mentoring support from a STEM-specific, expert mentor;

  • A free, cleared California teaching credential in at least one STEM discipline;

  • A free, Master of Arts degree in Education or a Master of Science degree in a STEM field;

  • At least one year as a mentor of a Trellis Teacher Scholar;

  • National Board Certification initiated in a STEM discipline;

  • Demonstrated effectiveness as a secondary STEM teacher;

  • A belief that STEM teaching is an act of social justice and STEM learning is a civil right; and

  • A commitment to and passion for California students and the teaching profession.
